The Trek Letter List – No. 6 Write A Letter To A Stranger

This is my latest effort to response to MirandaFave Homework challenge of a series of thirty Trek verse letters.  Anyway this is Number six a letter from one of my character to a stranger. Which I’ve got to say at first glance to seems even bit as weird as to write a letter to your dreams but when one thinks about it a lot less strange. Captain needs to send sad letters to families when they need to tell them a love one won’t be returning home.

MeanderFaveHW

So without further ado, here is Captain Emmylou Galyaski writing to a stranger, to tell them their child has fallen in the line duty.

To Mrs J. Tarkio,

Titan Boulevard,

New Lima, Enceladus,

Sol,

From: Captain E. Galyaski

USS Trireme,

Starfleet

Mrs Tarkio,

I write with greatest sympathy to sadly inform you that your son Lieutenant Vicente Tarkio has died in the line of duty.

While for tactile reasons I can’t tell you much, what I can tell you is that his sacrifice did allowed the rest of his team to completed their mission and return safety.

While I suspect it will be of little comfort to you, I can tell you that his actions have won him posthumous the Shran Cluster for valour in the line of duty.

What I can tell you is that he was a well like officer with a very promising future ahead of him. His practical experience of living on Enceladus and working with K-class world colony domes and terra-forming technology has been invaluable to the crew as we provide aid to new colonies.

He was the leading light of the ship’s theatrical company and his updated adaptations of classic plays were always well received by the crew. I understand the ship theatrical company are planning to stage a special memorial play I’ve asked when they do perform it that they record it and forward you a copy.

We have made arrangements for his belongs to be transfer back from the Trireme to you.  I understand his department head Lt. Commander P’kyrr will also be writing to you separately to pass on his own condolence.

I understand Starfleet Command has being in touch to offer counselling support, if they is anything more the service or I can do to help you through this difficult time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch via Enceladus Station.

We are all poor for his passing and I regret that there is so little I can do but offer you my personal condolence.

With Deepest sympathies

Captain Emmylou Galyaski

The Trek Letter List – No. 5 Write a Letter to Dreams

MeanderFaveHW

This is my latest effort to response to MirandaFave Homework challenge of a series of thirty Trek verse letters.  Anyway this is my fifth challenge answer. Which is a letter from one of my character to their dreams. Which I’ve got to say seems a weird thing to write a letter to but let see where this one goes.

So without further ado, Here my AOS or NuTrek Version of James T. Kirk writing to his dreams.

Hello,

You might wonder why I’m writing you this letter, given this isn’t my normal type of thing but Bones reckon it might do me some good, given my recent lack of sleep to work out what is playing on my mind by studying what my dreams are about.

trekxihd1152

I don’t have the heart to tell him that the reason I’m not sleeping is the nightmares. I’m the Captain of the Federation’s flagship, and I can’t afford to be weak in front of the crew and especially not in front of Bones.

It just of late my dreams have started to featured friends and family in unfamiliar settings and I’m worried that it might some kind of delay leak from when I shared a mind meld with the older Spock from the pre-Nero timeline.

For some of them I can cope with it, as all I see is myself sitting in the centre seat on the bridge of the Enterprise but it not my bridge. The crew are all there and are the same and yet they’re not. They all seem to be doing the same sort of things but strangely Scotty has black hair not red.

cropped-amoktimehd319.jpg

Those dreams are bizarre but not bothersome, it’s the other ones, the ones where I see that other me facing hardships that are getting to me.

The first bothersome dream is the one is the one that seems to echo my recent trip to the heart of the warp core. Where I’m looking out from inside the chamber again but rather than see Spock like I did. I see an older me having to watching me die and unable to help, struggling to say the words that need saying. It hurts but the question that dream leaves me when I wake is how can that be? Did McCoy use Khan Blood to bring Spock back like he did for me or did some other miracle save the other Spock life?

Then there is the one when I standing on a hill of a burning planet and with the crew as we watched the Enterprise burn up in the atmosphere and I hear McCoy voice telling that other me, I’ve done what I’ve always done turn death into a fighting chance to live. Yet despite those words all I can feel is pain and despair as my true home burns up leaving a trail of fire across the sky.

How did they get out of that situation and how was losing the ship, turning death into a fight chance to live? I wish I could find the other Spock to ask him more of that incident perhaps with a little foreknowledge I could save the ship this time around.

tsfshd1299

The most haunting dream is the one where I’m Spock and I’m sitting at Thanksgiving dinner in the Kirk family farm and Mum is fussing over Peter while Bones and I help her in the Kitchen to prepare the food, despite the age on that other Kirk face, Mum’s face somehow looks a lot less weary than I’ve every recall seeing. Then my (Spock’s) eyes fall on a family portrait that shows Mum and Dad attending my alternative self’s Starfleet graduation ceremony, and I feel envious of that Kirk.

Then I see next to it a picture of Sam with a black border and feel Spock’s pain as I recall Deneva, then the dream changes and I can see an younger Kirk kneeling over the dead body of Sam, the clear look of pain on that Kirk faces as he tries to carry on.

Operation_Annihilate_081

It’s part of the reason I changed the Enterprise patrol route to be closer to Deneva, when we were in that sector last month.

Operation_Annihilate_074

Hence the reason we got to Deneva in the nick of time to save Sam and some of the other colonists it shows that with a little foreknowledge, I can fulfil my promise to Christopher Pike and do better. Still I wonder if by reacting to the dream and saving Sam what other changes I’ve set into flow for this timeline. The worse thing is I can’t shake the feeling that without Dad I’ve hurt Mum in ways that I can’t explain and I don’t know how to fix that, as some flowers on Mothering Sunday and the Federation day of the women, doesn’t seem enough, I can only hope by saving Sam and his family that will take some of the weight off her shoulders.

The final bothersome dream is the one that wakes me and leaves me with questions I don’t know how to tackle, It starts with me, as Spock, standing in a hospital with Bones and I enter a private room, when I enter I see an older Carol, I mean Doctor Marcus sleeping in a bed with that other older me holding her hand, but it obvious from the medical read outs and her half frozen face that she has had a serious stroke and the outlook is very bleak.

startrekintodarkness_hd_36

I find myself in Spock’s voice saying I’m sorry Jim, but we need to go now, if the peace treaty is to happen; we much reach the rendezvous on time to greet their Flagship. I can see the pain look on that other Kirk Face as he nods his understanding stands and put Carol hand back on the bed. As we leave I see the look of regret cross that other James Kirk face. What did he do or not do in relation to Carol that leaves him with such regrets, can I find an alternative and better path in this new timeline and what is it?

twokhd0729

Why do you torment me so dreams? I do want to do better to keep my promise to Christopher and yet I’m left wondering what butterfly paths have already been change beyond any power to put right and with what I lost without Dad in my life, can I still be the hero that the alternative Spock and Indeed Nero said I was originally destiny to be?

So dreams please be kind this night and just give me a simply ‘save the day’ dream, and stop with the alternative timeline memories because I don’t want to play the second guessing game anymore.

Cheers.

Captain Kirk.

The Trek Letter List – No. 4 Write a Letter to Sibling

This is my latest effort to response to MirandaFave Homework challenge of a series of thirty Trek verse letters.  Anyway this is my fourth challenge attempt a letter from one of my character to one of their siblings.

MeanderFaveHW

After a bit of inner debate, I was going to do one from Schick the Xindi-Insectoid as she has lots of siblings but then I realize a letter full of clicks wouldn’t work, nor doing it in English, as it would spoil the fun of the character.

So Instead here is Captain Douglas Gorrim of the Ariane NX-04 letter to one of his Brothers.

To: Carl Gorrim,

1063 Arndtstraße

Hanover District

New Berlin

From: Douglas Gorrim

Hotel Liieri, Florin City, Andoria, C/O NX-04, Ariane

Date: March 30, 2158

OPENED BY THE EARTH WAR-OFFICE

REMEMBER YOU MIGHT BE TALKING TO A ROMULAN

Carl,

Cheers bro for the update in your recent letter, sorry I couldn’t respond sooner but the Ariane had a minor run in with some Romulan Warbirds; but on the bright side you can tell Katie to sleep safe and not to worry uncle Douglas is keeping them away.

cropped-aenar_094.jpg

I’ve got to admit I’ve current nursing a few bruises as well in the aftermath but nothing you need to worry mum about.

Well while I’m recovering and overseeing the repairs of the Ariane at this Andorian shipyard, I’m getting a little chance to learn more about our Andorian allies. From their various music styles to dance to their entertainment arts. Certainly I’m learning to appreciated Andorian Brandy, if the fates are kind I’ll bring you a bottle back as I’m sure Brigitte and you would appreciate on a quiet night, once you’ve put the girls to bed.

Tell Gabrielle that the crew and I appreciated her Kinder-garden class drawings they were good for ship morale, though I’m not sure how Naurr would take being called my big kitty chef to his face though knowing him maybe he would see the funny side.

breakingtheice_007

From recent family letters I get the feeling that Sis and Junior have fallen out again, Any idea what was the cause was this time? Has she dye her head an interesting colour again?

Anyway I’ve got to go, but here hoping the war is over by Christmas and I can catch up with you and your extended family and maybe I’ll be able to remembers a bit of German this time.

All the best,

Douglas

The Trek Letter List – No. 3 Write a Letter to Parents

Well it being a bit of a bad week which has seen me fall a bit behind on these but here is my latest effort to response to MirandaFave Homework challenge of a series of thirty Trek verse letters.  Anyway this is my third challenge answer which is to post is a letter from one of my character to their parents.

Miranda02

After a bit of inner debate, this turned out to be a job for Captain Jolene (Red) Lallason.

To: Martin Lallason

Deyosma Colony,

Red Reality

Home.

Dear Dad,

Hello.

You might be wonder why I’m bothering to writing to you, when I’m currently stuck in an alternative timeline and no way to send you this letter, I know I am.

Well it because Starfleet Councillor Luxani, felt following the events that land me here that I might be able to get my head around it better if I wrote my thoughts all down in a letter.

So here is that letter, any way as an ex-Starfleet officer I suppose you be interested to knowing what this alternative timeline is like. While this new reality is much the same as ours just further along in history, the local year is 2409, and you’ve been dead for over a century, but then so has the alternative of me.  I can’t see any real historical difference up to the moment my ship and crew were thrown into this timeline.

Starfleet have taken us in and looked after us. Sadly even the best of their science diversion say there is no way we’re ever going to get home.

So I’m trying to do my best to adept to this reality and lead my crew in a different reality. It’s not easy but while the USS Boadicea is being retrofit, we’ve been post to a nearby Starbase called USS Ganges where the station Councillor Luxani has being a help me to adept, hence this letter.

I guess it seem weird to realised that I never going to taste your home cooking again, hear your bad jokes, or witness those little touches of love. That I can no longer visit the family house that you built with Mum that hold such dear childhood memories for me, since here it has long fallen into ruins. The worse thing is that you gone and I’ve not got a chance to say goodbye properly and from your view you likely never know what happen to me. I hope you met someone new or did something to enjoy your retirement and didn’t just stay in the local pub drinking ale and playing dominos.

Funny thing is, I always thought of Mum as my main driver in life, she was my first heroine and the real reason I want into Starfleet, you were just my Dad. The one who was there when I need someone to see me as the second Shepard on the left in the school Christmas play. The one who read me bedtime stories when Mum was away on duty.

homefront_181

Mum said I took you for granted and I guess it wasn’t till I got to the Academy that I began to understand that you were her and mine rock and now in the blink of a temporal anomaly I find myself beginning to realising how much I relied on you and how I’m missed you as much as Mum.

Well the other strange thing is in this new reality I’ve met the older sister I never had who is also called Jolene, but in her reality I’m called Abby it seems being a bit of a weird thing I know. However while mum’s path seems different, yours seems much the same. It weird how both her and me our similar seem to start with both of us recall your daft little jokes or taking us to lacrosse practice, encouraging our passions and skills.

The other Jolene (we take to calling her Blue) for the colour of her ship’s nacelles saw that Abby was very much a Daddy girl and didn’t feel the need to follow so close in Mum footsteps as her, the older sister was already doing that.

trekxihd2887

I’m worried that perhaps Abby was better version of me and that she gave her version of you all the appreciation and respect that maybe I didn’t because I want to be Mum Mark II.

In hindsight I realise I never said this enough but Thank you for everything and that I do love you Dad every bit as Mum, I hope that I never gave you reason to doubt that.

I missed you but I’ll adept and go on from the wonderful foundation you gave me.

Yours loving daughter,

Jolene

Xxx & Ooo’s

PS: My crew and I, play my alternate sister and her crew. We won 4-3 last night Go Reality Red 😉

Boldly Reading #5 Their Finest Hour Review

Slightly overdue on the January review but here is my response to Boldly Reading challenge #5.

You can see Admiral MF review in his Blog reply: –

The Author’s Q&A with Jespah can be viewed here: –

http://boldlyreading.com/2014/01/27/book-club-choice-5-author-q-a/

So anyway onto the Boldly Reading questions.

Q1. What were the climaxes of the stories?

A1.  An interesting question to ask about this story.

I think you could potentially argue the each of the various different characters has a different climax.  For me part one starts with the climax of both parts as J.J. Carmichael hit his field quarters but is unable to sleep due to the horrors that he has seen that day.

While for me part one does seem to reach it main climaxes with the United Earth Government give the order to going to its maximum alert status.

While part two, for me doesn’t feel to have a clear conclusion. The closest we get, for me is the moment when the rescued little girl is identified Penda Uhura to the cadets, the implication being that this is an ancestor to Nyota Uhura and thus the TOS/AOS timelines have being saved.  However as the Author has already hint there is a part three in the works perhaps everything will fall together better when I get to read that.

Q2. Did they devolve to satisfactory conclusions?

A2.  Part one yes, that in the face of an inevitable defeat, The Admiral finds a small silver lining that Academy resources have been used to pull together a disaster recover centre.

Part two despite being an excellent story with good description work of the tragedy, my answer would be no. It just felted a paragraph short for me. I think with the cadets fuel limit fast approaching they just don’t have the time to rescue all three people, and thus I felt it should of ending with showing the cadets facing up to that harsh truth of having to abandon at least one or two civilian to their fate. Thus explaining and fitting nicely with the part one open scene.

theexpanse_189

Q3. What happens right after the curtain comes down on the story?

A3.  Well I fear that the Cadets will have to lack of fuel leave one or two of the civilians behind, which means that they might have to deal with a very distort little girl.

I do wonder how Starfleet command will respond to their own defensive failings and what the Cadets went through in their efforts to save lives in the aftermath. Plus the Media obvious negative reaction to their failings.

I like to see if Anne Ortega and her daughter do truly escape the horrors of Miami and what happens to then and the other surviving refugees as they try to rebuild their lives. As they do feel a very separate sub-plot and not linked back to the main cadet heroes plot arc.

Q4. Where would you take these characters next?

A4. Nowhere there are Funngunner Characters.

Now if I was going to write the next chapter I be looking at the disaster recover, how the civilians we’ve already seen on the ground react after surviving the attack but lose everything, how the cadets and their Starfleet seniors see their own efforts. I might focus on the Government priorities after the attack, do they put resources and time on planetary defenses, rebuilding or trying to build resources on Mars in case Earth doesn’t survive the next attack. i.e. another look at the United Earth Government executive inner working.

Due to IRL time shortage I’m not going to tackle the bonus question for once, due to it requires me to read another story.

So instead I want to touch on something that Admiral Miranda Fave said on Enterprise as a series and the Series 3 Xindi arc in his Blog.

 borderland_087

The (Enterprise) series did have a lot of flaws and miscalculations in its execution of elements, concepts and characters.

A lot of flaws? I would say that is a harsh statement, it had no more flaws than TNG, DS9 or VOY when they were first launched. It biggest flaw can be drawn back to the Network rushing the show writers for a quick launch of the NX01 and so after the excellent Broken Bow opener we had a episode that could of come from TNG or VOY left over story pile. ENT suffering from being the youngest of the Trek Family Series and coming last to air.

It (The Xindi Arc) attempted to tackle continuity and do the kind of storytelling seen in DS9′s Dominion War arc, especially its series culmination stories. Where DS9 was applauded for the approach ENT seemed to get short shrift.

rajiin_001

Now I would agree with Miranda Fave on this. I do think the ENT Xindi arc is the equal of DS9 Dominion War ARC. As someone said recently (I think it might of being either Gettysburg or Sorridum on the G&T Show) TNG had a weak two first seasons and didn’t get going till after it series three.

bound_002

On the issue of raiding the Illyrian Vessel we seen Archer put into a dark place and force to made harsh decision, but ask your self honestly, to save Earth do you think in Archer position that Kirk, Sulu, Picard, Janeway or Sisko have done anything different? For me it was the same sort of choice as Sisko using Garek to trick the Romulans into joining the war against the Dominion.

cardassians_224

Well those are my initials thoughts, overall I think this is an excellent piece of work that give some thing only seen a thirty second screen tragedy a proper examination and is well worth a read by all people who enjoy good science fiction.

Still as always constructive feedback is welcome.

Till next time, I’ll wish you all happy reading.

The Trek Letter List – No. 2 Write a Letter to a Crush

Well to continue my response to MirandaFave Homework challenge of a series of thirty Trek verse letters.  Feel free to see the original post here: –

http://mirandafave.adastrafanfic.net/2014/02/17/30-day-letter-challenge/

Anywat this second challenge post is a letter from one character to someone they have a crush on.

MeanderFaveHW

This clearly feels like a job for Martin Lallason to his favorite lady Captain Lily Fitzroy

Kelvin03

To: Captain Lily Fitzroy

Reed Street, Valley View Town

Dear Lily,

I’m writing you yet another secret letter that you will never see. I suppose you’re wondering why? Now that is a good question, but then you did always have the ability to ask the right question. You’re so good at it that you do it even when you’re just a figment of my imagination. It’s one of your many talents I do admire you for.

Yes I know I am avoid answering the real question. The real answer (if I dare to truthfully answer in this letter), I tell myself that it’s to do with how low you have been feeling of late. You need a real friend more than a love interest, especially from someone you could do so much better than. So I can’t show my true feeling right now, so I put them in this letter to lock them away. So I will be your friend in this time of need, and my love will remain hidden.

I mean I am just a back room supply depot captain, who spends his day sorting out the supplies to keep everybody else going, not an glamorous ex-flagship starship captain like you.

I’ve spend the last ten minutes going through my Oxford Federation Thesaurus but I can’t find the words to do you and my feelings justice.

The closest I’ve got is the words of the old song I heard on the radio just now called “Angel Flying to Close to the Ground.”

The first verse or is it the chorus I never sure but the words that struck a chord with me were: –

If you had not have fallen

Then I would not have found you

Angel flying too close to the ground

And I patched up your broken wing

And hung around a while

Tried to keep your spirits up

And your fever down

I knew someday that you would fly away
.

For love’s the greatest healer to be found

Odd isn’t that I need the words of the old red haired stranger to describe my redhead friend. Though in truth perhaps I would paraphrase my version as: –

If you had not have fallen
,

Then I would not have found you
 again

My Angel who has being grounded

And I’ll try to patched up your broke soul

And I will hang around while you need me

Trying to fix your heart

And keep your doubts down

But I know someday that you will fly away
 to the stars.

For this hidden lover is the greatest healer you’ll find.

A metal butterfly is about to flap it's wings.

A metal butterfly is about to flap it’s wings.

It lame I know and that why this letter will remain hidden from your sight. To save us both from the embarrassment factor should you ever see it.

I want you back to your brilliant best to shine once more but I sadly suspect that when I heal you, then you will go back to the stars without me. I now this will break my heart more than you could or must ever know.

But as I love you so much that all I want, is for you to be happy and I do believe that the only place you can be happy is back on the bridge of your starship.

So I will do all I can to get you back there and fully happy.

Your Friend

Martin.

The Trek Letter List – No.1 Letter to a best friend

The first challenge is a letter between Best Friends.

MeanderFaveHW

Well whom should I pick for this treatment…

I think it’s time for a bit of Emmylou and Xenktid during the Dominion War.

sacraficeofangels021

To: Lt. Commander Galyaski

USS Atlantis

Greetings Emmylou,

Sorry this is so short but I’m dashing it off during a quiet moment of my current convoy escorting. However my crew and I have claimed our ace of Galor cruisers.

Anyway congratulations are in order on your field promotion to first officer of USS Atlantis and your part in repealing the first Dominion assault of Cait. While I know you will easily raise to the challenge. I can only wish it was under better conditions. Indeed I’m starting to think my Victory Cocktail Party will involve half of the Admiralty board. Though even if you are an Admiral, I’m expecting you to hold back my hair when I puke after the last cocktail experiment.

Just remember as you’re now an X/O of a Galaxy class you’ve got to keep not just your ship running smoothly but also every other ship in your fleet in the loop. Still I’m sure you’ll rise to the challenge.

I shall see you soon.

Xenktid.

equinoxpt2_134

To Captain Xenktid

USS Hurricane

Hello Xenktid,

I’m glad to hear from you, thanks for your letter and congratulations and my congratulations on your ace kill. I hope you’ll forgive me if I say that I’m hoping that Starfleet losses doesn’t get so bad that we’re all Admirals at your Victory Cocktail Party. Still if you’re an Admiral I’m expecting you to get a decent brand of gin in.

Fingers crossed I see you well soon, keep those conveys safe.

I hope to write again soon, hopefully when the seize of Cait is fully lifted.

Love Emmylou.

3-4-All:- Blog Prompt #16 – What Have You Learned from Writing Fan Fiction?

Captain Log stardate: 67594.6

So after our enforced short rest from dry eyes during January at long last USS False Bill is once more underway and investigating some more simple questions. (So apologizes to both Funngunner and M C Pehrson, I’m still planning to go back do blog reviews of both of your story in due course).

Anyway Helm it time to seek out those answers for Admiral Jespah.

Q1. What has writing fan fiction taught you?

A1. That my spelling and written English syntax sucks!

Thought I suspect that before I wrote Fan fiction. What I can say is that trying to find cannon character voice and my own characters unique voice for the story can be tricky. Indeed casting Character has help to a degree but some characters have so far remained uncast since I can’t think of a good actor to cast.

bride_401

I have also learnt that writing a complete story piece is hard but fun work, but the key reviewing and getting a final polish is even harder work and lot less fun. Also a little is quite as satisfactory as the feeling of seeing your story posted and getting constructive feedback on.

Q2. And what do you think it can teach others?

A2. To appreciate how much hard work goes into stories, to be thick-skinned and more tolerant of others point of view and their interruptions on cannon characters and events.

 author_149

Bonus Question!

Q3. What do you think, specifically, posting and reading fan fiction on Ad Astra has taught you?

A3. Well Ad Astra first taught me don’t let Miranda Faye see me drop any crumbs, and if I do ensure it’s in lil Black Dog Roomba robots patrol area but don’t drop Pie #81 as that will eat through the hull.

twokhd0420

However on a serious note. It taught me that there is a very likeable global community of much more talented Star Trek Authors than either those that wrote the last Into Darkness Movie or me. These wonderful people who take the time, patients and skill to nurture rookie authors and help retain Star Trek unique place as the unify of science-fiction.

More than anything it has restored my faith in the kindness of trekkie strangers.

Journey_to_Babel_064

Anyway I think the sensors are failing, so I’ll leave it there for now.

As always queries or feedback are welcome.

Till next time, I’ll wish you all safe trekking.

3-4-All #015 Blog as a Character – Transitions

Captain’s Log Star-date 67463.6

Admiral Jespah XV & Miranda Fave has just sent through new orders, which can be viewed by any of the crew USS False Bill at: –

http://boldlyreading.com/2013/12/30/blog-prompt-15-blog-as-a-character/

After some debate I have decide to ask Admiral Emmylou Galyaski of Starbase USS Ganges to respond on my behalf, as Captain Lily seems to have acquired a two day R&R pass from someone.

Private Log Star-date 84009.83

Dear Diary,

How are you? Me? Oh I’m much the same as yesterday only that the mysterious non-corporeal force known only as FalseBill appeared in my office this morning and proceeded to set me the task of answering some questions for him least he do something nasty to myself and the station personnel under my command.

However the questions aren’t the easiest, so I’ve got the whole USS Ganges Command Crew to help out. I attached a recording of this morning discussion on the questions.

allgoodthings1035

Q1. How do you handle transitions?

A1.

Ike: That’s a bit of an open-end question to start with!

Jalke’i:  What sort of transitions? I mean I didn’t handle been transfer from the Station onto the Q skating ring that well.

Emmylou: No Jalke’i I don’t think that what the question is getting at.

Luxani: Traditionally non-corporeal life forms are more interested in emotional changes perhaps you should discuss one of your recent emotional transitions Admiral?

Emmylou: Which would you suggest Councillor?

Luxani: Well becoming a widow was a major transition—

Emmylou: Luxani, the lower cargo-store room does need an full deep clean and re-inventory by hand were you just volunteering?

Jalke’i: Why not try a happy transition instead, like meeting me for the first time

Senezqu: Happy transition, meeting you?

Jalke’i: Hey—

Emmylou: Number One, that is uncalled for!

Reqknor: Arresting Jalke’i and you Admiral for the first time in that Dixon Hill Holo-adventure was a happy transition for me.

Emmylou: Glad you enjoy that.

Ike: Was it the completing the holo-novel or the Admiral in handcuffs that did it for you then Reqknor?

Emmylou: Ike!

Senezqu: Mister Minorus, that ‘s a whole inappropriate question in a staff meeting.

Luxani: Yes we all know that it was Jalke’i in handcuffs that did it.

Emmylou: Councillor!

Senezqu: Shall I ask Dr. Chamze to scan the station for remaining traces of the cupid various Admiral?

Emmylou: Now that’s one transition I don’t want to be reminded of, when all my senior staff turned into a bunch of love-struck Romeo & Juliet’s and kept trying to romance me.

Senezqu: perhaps we should just answer, very badly?

Emmylou: yes the Answer to question one is very badly.

Q2. Do they frighten you? Inspire you? Sicken you? Amuse you?

A2.

Ike: Well that depends upon the transitions because it’s could be any of them.

Luxani: I do agree with you Ike.

Emmylou: fine that easy, Watching people reveal via transition to be a member of species 8472—

Senezqu: I believe it prefer to called them the Undine these days.

Emmylou: 8472 or Undine the tipeds infiltrators watching the reveal transitions is frightening what ever they’re called as a species.

Jalke’i: Well when you put your game face on that inspires me Admiral.

Ike: Jalke’i turning into the Admiral’s number one fan-girl–.

Luxani: Now Ike, you should book a session with me to discuss your problem with—

Emmylou: In the room, can you three take this off-line please?

Ike: Yes Admiral.

Senezqu: now watching those three face transition changes, when you tell them off does amuse me, Admiral.

Emmylou: A reminder I’ve still got a lower cargo-store room needing a full deep clean and re-inventory by hand, so be nice to each other.

Then my dear diary is when we got onto the awkward question with two parts to save my crew blushes I’ve only included the essential part of the conversation.

Q3. Tell us about a memorable transition: –

Q3a. One that went well?

Emmylou: Taking command of my first command the USS Trireme and get my eldest child Sophia to accept life in a starship nursery without a hiss-fit.

Jalke’i: Going from a happy-go luck cadet to a serious Starfleet ensign on graduating the academy.

Ike: A serious Starfleet ensign?

Jalke’i: Yes, hence why I’m the Admiral’s best personnel assistant.

Senezqu: My marriage to my beautiful Klingon bride Grilkasa, I want from a stuffy by the book officer to a more rounded individual, with a wider cultural appreciation.

Ike: More rounded Senezqu? I’m going to call Doctor Chamze now we clearly had a break out of a different strain of the cupid virus; everybody has gone lovesick and Delusional.

Luxani: You know cynicism doesn’t suit you Ike.

Emmylou: No but cleaning the lower storeroom does, we see you later Ike.

Ike: Yes Admiral.

Q3b. One that didn’t go so well?

Ike: having to go and clean the lower storeroom.

Luxani: Bye Ike.

Well diary I didn’t tell the senior officers but I know one of the worse transition I had to endure was the day I finally got my Scott, may he rest in peace, to admit and face up to his binge drinking problem. It was so hard going from a happy couple to one with miss-trust issues ever time alcohol was around, it took far too long to work our way through that issue. The only transition memory that was nearly as bad was back when I became the USS Atlantis X/O after the first battle of Cait and my first task was working out just who and how many friends and colleagues we lost in that failed Dominion assault, at least that horrid only last a day.

Bonus questions!

Let’s say you meet a character. It could be a canon person, or not. They might be from your universe, or not.

Dear Diary it’s me again now what on Earth does FalseBill mean by Canon person? I’ve consulted the Starfleet database and even the Federation interweb database and both are just drawing a blank, so I’ll just go with historical hero or heroine instead.

Well as soon as I said that change to the bonus questions, Jalke’i said she wanted to answer these questions, so over to Jalke’i

Thanks Admiral, the persons I most like to go back and meet so I could help them would be Prime Minister Kulei and Commodore Lily Fitzroy just before Centauran first contact with the Federation.

Q4. What would you tell them about a transition that they might be going through?

A4. Well I tell Kulei that she is leading the Centauran through it most important transition in its history, to have less faith in the old court and judges system and not listen to old myths and start first contact by provoking Lily via aggressive greetings.

I also tell Lily not to wear the formal uniform hat to the meeting with Kulei and go with a Vulcan hand salute rather than an Earth handshake.

Q5. How could you help them with it?

A5. Well having attending the Academy course on diplomacy and first contacts I’ve read and writing essay on both ladies biographies and have watched the classic Centauran film ‘Successful Failure’ as part of my first year at the academy. I understand

Q6. Would you help them?

A6. Screw the Temporal prime directive, I would offer both Kulei and Captain Lily Fitzroy my sage advice and experience to prevent the tragic misunderstanding that was Centauran First Contact.

Captain’s Log Star-date 67460.1

The USS False Bill is enjoying a rare break at space-dock and so we are now all in reflection mood and preparing for the forthcoming Hogmanay event. We have no orders or questions to answer from the Admiralty at the moment.

Private Log Star-date 67460.1

It hard to believe that it’s now 533 star days since stardate 66927.1 (or 198 days or so since the 17th June in the old earth calendar) when I first join the elite Ad Astra Captains Table. In that time I’ve learn more about the Federation, it allies and even its enemies.

balanceofterrorhd220

I’ve met amazing fellow captains and their crews made new friends from around the Milky Way listen to their story and their morale dilemmas, their victories and sometimes their defeats.

I’m not sure what has been my favourite moment or story of these first six months but the favourite thing has been the kind and helpful productive atmosphere of the forums.

The regularly weekly free write, the grammar workshop and the monthly challenges that you’ve all help to make the forums as well as the archives something special and have helped me to explore my writing faults and my characters more believable.

shuttlepodone_435

This December I’ve seen the true spirit of Christmas as each C/O has created personal gifts of stories of story reviews for their fellow captains or offer sage advice in the Stuff the Stocking Forum set-up by Admiral SL Walker.
