Trying to beat the Block 2014

Well hello dear reader,

So it’s blog time again, and before I get to the Free-4-All Blog,

I just want to take a step back and revisited last week writing theme on unblock the block.

Now if you were hanging round the Ad Astra Forums (http://forums.adastrafanfic.com/index.php?/topic/2342-week-ten-unblock-the-block/?p=43422) you will have seen I’m trying to unblock a story I start back in February 2014 for the Holiday Origin story challenge.

The story features the stars of the Ariane NX-04 stories with a bit of a focus on Naurr and Douglas Gorrim. So far so good and I had a good organ idea which was inspired by reading David A. Goodman excellent Star Trek “Federation – The First 150 Years” and the piece about the Romulan War and in particular the Romulan devastating attack on Denobula 1st October 2158 so they could use they spaceport as a staging area before they attack on Sol a couple of weeks later.

The thing that stood out to me was the Denobulan entered the Romulan War as Earth only ally yet there was no mention of humanitarian aid or mutal support from Earth.

So as the other warp five ship were mention in the battle and none in defense it struck me that it would be a perfect opportunity to squeeze in the Ariane as it provide humanitarian aid and did the other functions that would have been need during an interstellar war with a unknown source.

The problem is to me the story seemed to have just a background but no challenge and despite several point of view changes the story just didn’t seem to having any hook.

So for Unblock the block I’ve tried to get the story going again with the help of the kind Ad Astra writers. It has improved and by bring in the temporary food shortage..

=/\=

Captain Douglas Gorrim looked out of the window at Denobula, while taking another sip of his dark black coffee, which was as bitter as his mode. He looked once more upon the scares that the Romulans had inflicted upon an unsuspecting world. Behind him on the table lay several PADD with various department heads status reports on.

theexpanse_189

As the world slowly rotated below him he could see the six massive creators that the Romulans had inflict, to stop the Denobulan from resisting the Romulans abuse of their space sport facilities.

The Romulans were now long gone their expedition/invasion force to Sol had walked into Admiral Gardiner Ambush and been devastated.

Douglas activated his ship log reporter and said into it.

“Captain Log’s October 26th 2158 supplemental, The Ariane is now in orbit around Denobula and even from orbit the devastation of the Romulan recent callous attack is evident, the death count is many millions and with so many still missing I suspect it will only get higher over the coming days.

The Ariane crew are providing direct aid to the shell-shocked Denobulans, So far I’m proud to say that Commander Ziyl Engineering team have manage to establish two temporary power plants to allow the local civil defense force function better and dig several latrines to assist with the crippled and struggling local sewer system. However at the moment they are working overtime on helping the Denobulans to repair their overworked mass protein re-sequencers back on line. I’m told that the first signs of famine are already starting to show in the major urban areas.

Lieutenant Comsox science team are aiding the CMO Dr. Bernardine Keating-Fong team in identifying any wound buried under rubble but sadly more often than not they’re just pulling out more dead. I understand this morning the Beta shift team end up recovering bodies from a destroyed Children’s Hospital, I do not envy them having to do that, so in accordance with the good Doctor recommendation Beta Shift members have being put on reduced hours in order to keep them at peak efficiency, I almost wish we had a train councillor onboard to help them through the mental ordeal.

While Chef Naurr has gone into over drive with his soup kitchen to try and feed as many people as he can in the third city where food has struggled to get through, till we arrived. Lieutenant Akua security teams are working with the MACO’s and the local police to try and keep order at the kitchen so we can feed as many of the locals as we can, as fairly as we can. While the crew still onboard Ariane have switched to emergency rations, so that there is more food available to help the starving Denobulans.

While we await the arrival of the Enterprise and the Lexington with fresh supplies from other coalition members, I’ve tried to keep only a skeleton crew on Ariane so everybody who can be spared is planet side trying to provide extra aid. However Doctor Keating-Fong tells me that all of my department heads are already starting to show the strain of this aid mission, thus we’ve agree that she has a watching brief to send anybody back to the ship who can’t physically or emotionally cope with their assign task.

I’ve spoken with the Denobulan ambassador to the Coalition; thankfully she see this as a sign of the Romulans pure evil and not something that can be placed on humanity for being at war with them over the Starbase one massacre. I get the impression that as soon as the Denobulans get a new leader elected to replace the one killed in the attack, we will finally have another coalition member join us in the war against the Romulans.

Somehow it felt like that the tide of the war might have turn by a couple of Romulan mistakes as much as by our own efforts. Yet as I stare at the scars on the world below, I do wonder if they will ever be any peace among the stars for Humanity.”

The ship intercom whistle and his communication officer Ensign Savio Dubrovnik call interrupted Douglas.

Douglas quickly answered

“Captain Gorrim here, Savio what’s the issue?”

Savio replied

“Sorry to interrupt Captain but an urgent message has just come in for you, from Naurr,”

“Transfer it down here,” said Gorrim

“Aye Captain. I’m transferring it down now it’s audio only on channel two,” said Savio

With an acknowledgement to Savio, Douglas pulled out his communicator and switches it to channel two.

“Captain Gorrim here,” he said.

He was greeted by static, so he made a couple of adjustments before he hear Naurr voice.

“Please repeat Naurr,” said Douglas

“Captain, It’s Chef Naurr, someone has started a rumor the food will run out, I think you need to get down here, the locals are… well I don’t know the right word, but I think you need to get down here quickly, with some more MACOs.”

“I’m on my way,” Naurr.

=/\=

With both shuttlepods already out on Denobula, and only being able to find one squad of MACO’s fit for duty on the Ariane, Douglas decided to risk it and use the Ship Transporter to beam down directly to the Soup Kitchen.

As the light and transporter paralysis left him Douglas could see why Naurr had struggle for the right word. The Denobulans were gather in loud crowds around the soup kitchen, most were dirty or wore damage clothes. There seem to be holding up touches and farming instruments. He estimates that the Ariane and local law enforcement were heavily outnumbered.

“Lovely touches and pitchforks, nice welcome,” said one of the MACO’s

“I predict a riot!” replied another.

Douglas turned round and give them both a hard stare, that he had recently learn from the MACO Major in charge of the MACO on the Ariane and the MACO with him got the hint and went silent and adopt a more active defense perimeter around him.

They’re arrival had gone unnoticed by either side and Naurr and a Denobulan in a uniform rush up to greet him.

“Captain!” Naurr shouted as he rushed up and hug him.

The Denobulan in the uniform spoke and it only took a moment for Douglas translator to pick the required translation.

“Captain Gorrim, Please to meet you I’m sub-lieutenant Phvolph, I’m in charge of police security for your soup kitchen, I’m Glad you here it might defuse the situation,”

“What’s the situation?” asked Gorrim.

Phvolph wait for the translation before replying.

“Somebody start a rumour that the food was running out, now the locals are gathering into family blocks, clear trying to seize the remaining food but at the moment no-one group seems ready to start on security, but as more people turn up, it will be a powder keg and something will start it.”

Douglas once he was happy with the translation decided to keep it short

“Okay, what your recommendation? Sub-lieutenant?”

“Evacuate your people or convince them the food will not run out,” answer Phvolph via the translator.

“Well the shuttlepod are too far away and the transporter limits mean it likely to take too long to get my people out.” Douglas turned to his chef “So Naurr what is the real food situation?”

Naurr rub the back of his neck and answered

“Not enough to feed all these people, we got maybe enough to feed three-quarters of them one more meal and then we need the new supplies from the Enterprise or the Lexington cargo run,”

“Which are both four hours away, I’m guessing it would take us an hour to use that up?” asked Douglas.

“At best,” said Naurr.

Douglas strokes his chin and said, “Best get me a microphone, I’ll see if I can prevent a riot,”

“How do you hope to do that?” asked Naurr with a bewilder look on his face.

“Explain it the start of the Hindu festival of light or Diwali and asked them to celebrate the forces of good in the universe by sharing their lights and more importantly food with those less fortunate,” replied Douglas,

“Is that Diwali?” asked Naurr

“Sort of, Religion isn’t my strong suit but let hope we can start a new tradition for a better tomorrow and not get lynched, there being enough death here recently,” answer Douglas

Still need a lot more work, the purple I know but what do people think of the latest bit?

#Blog-Like-a-Boss 2014 Final Challenge.

Well as the week of Blog Challenges comes to an end, Admiral SL Walker has set one finally prompt challenge and like every question prompt this week, It set me thinking hard for a good honest answer and I can’t wait to see what everybody else produces.

Q1. What kind of writing would you like to tackle in the future?

A1. How the actual invention of faster-than-light Warp Drive hasn’t invalidated Star Trek fiction. Preferable from the beech of a Risa like planet where hot green women like dancing for interstellar tourists.

cropped-bound_123.jpg

What? A single guy can dream!

Still in truth I do want to try and get more short stories up on to the Archive and then try to do a longer series of inter-link short stories for each of Naurr, Lily and Emmylou and they colleagues.

sacraficeofangels021

Q2. What themes would you like to explore?

A2. Well looking at the Ad Astra theme list, I want to explore: –

  • Action/Adventure (Lily pre Centauran Contact Mission of Exploration).
  • Angst/Drama (Bread and butter to Trek stories).
  • Family & Romance (Lily and Martin courting / Prime Emmylou and Scott marriage)
  • Fantasy (Trips to the Holodeck J)
  • Friendship (Alternate TNG era Gul Emmylou and Captain Xenktid)
  • Holiday (Ganges for all the Holidays)
  • Horror (Yes Douglas, Lily and Emmylou exploration mission will show them horror,)
  • Humor (Always, a core part of good trek).
  • IDIC (Schick and Jolene plus many others)
  • Mystery/ Tragedy (I sure you all like to know what happen to the Ariane, I’m sure some day I reveal that mystery)

So that a wrap for #BlogLikeABoss Week.

As always I wish you all safe trekking whatever your destination.

#Bosslikeaboss Prompt 5 to 7

Well one thing or another has kept me away from the blogsphere and I come back to find three very different questions that we’ve already seen fine answers for from Zeusfluff, Miranda fave, Jespah, Enterprise1981 and Kes7, so if you’ve not been over to look at those blogs yet, might I suggest you do take the time to go and visit them.

Kes7

Q1. What character do you love to write most?  What about them makes them so compelling?

A1. Well the honest answer is my favorite character changes depending upon my frame of mind and mood when I’m writing. They are all like children to a certain degree it’s hard to pick between them to say which of them I love the most.

However I think Emmylou Galyaski wins just edging out Naurr. As I seem to keep coming back to her in the various stages of her life slightly more than the Cajun Caitian. Yet I can’t say what makes her so compelling to write as a character, other than she always has the power to surprise me. Emmylou seems to turn her hand to comedy as well as she does the romance, then she easily does angst/battle scenes. I think it was Miranda Fave who once said she had broadshoulders and I think it that story adaptability that has endear her to my heart and made her a pleasure to write.

Q2. Reviewing; what you love to see in a review, what you love to give in a review, what you want to do for your own reviewing skills in the future.

A2a. I just love to see a review of any sort. So many people seem to just walk away after reading a story and you’ve no idea if they finished the story or whether they like it or hate it, so even a couple of words has meaning. I mean I agree with the other bloggers a reply that got some meat and constructive content to it

A2b. What I like to give in a review is a positive acknowledgement that I’ve read the story and when I can thinkof something suitable a salient point brought up by their works.

A2c. As for my future reviewing skills I want do it better but the path to that isn’t clear right now, so keep doing reviews and hope practice makes perfect.

Q3. Writing a summary, how do you do it?  And what about the story summaries of others draws you in?

A3a. With great difficult is the honest answer, I don’t have the skill of someone like Kes7 to write a quick blab and it one of the thing that gives me a cold sweat each time I post a new story to Ad Astra archive and it ask me to enter the story summary.

Now I know writing summary is a specialist skill and not all of us have the knack to write to the high standard Kes7 does, so I try to go with the old advise of just imagine you answering a mate, when they ask you quickly what the plot of the book you’re reading now. So you’ve only got a sentence of about twenty-five words to sum it up.

Q3b. As for what summaries draw me into reading a story, I’ll say that while most readers will know my struggles with English grammar and punctuation, I do still want to see no significant errors in a summary, as long as I can read it without noticing the grammar then want I want is to see something different or something clever or a interesting mystery.

Well that my brief answer on those questions, I hope you find something interesting in there.

I wish you safe trekking what ever your destination or alliance.

TTOT2014 W7 Blog Four

Hello again Reader,

So it’s another day and time again to #Bloglikeaboss only the daily prompt seems to be lost in the Delta Quadrant.

Well after yesterday’s blog self-congratulations love-in or was it an in-fight?

thegamestersoftriskelionhd0484

I’m trying to work out what to blog about as I’m not feeling in the mood for another Trek Letter, since it Jalke’i turn and I do need her to wake up from the coma at the end of Dance By The Pale Moonlight again, readable here if you have got some spare time :-

http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1918

I shall have to think of something else so Instead here is a quick tour round the False Bill Trekverse main characters.

borderland_087

So back to the beginning circa 2158 to 2161 and the Ariane NX-04

This NX cruiser has the unique honor of being the first Starfleet vessel to be built outside Sol and at a non-human spacedock. As it was built at the famous Telarite Shipyards under contract due to Earth urgency need for warp five ships to fight the Romulan war.

One of the minor faults with this ship is the signage is all in Telarite. This might seems to draft to believe but does have it inspiration in a real Royal Navy Incident.

Captain Douglas Gorrim

Is the Commander of Ariane and he is was created to be more of a scientist than the fighter-jock that Jonathan and Erika to reflect Starfleet would need the Ariane Captain to be smart and diplomatic enough to get the Ariane built without upsetting the collation partners. Plus the Ariane secret order is to try and work out a way to find the location of Romulus or key Romulan bases.

For my preferred Doug story see Doug’s bug hunt

http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1705

Chef Naurr

The Cajun Caitian is the runt of his litter and so has spent his life drifting from job to job, till he finally got a chef job on one of his sister’s interstellar freight ship, which the Romulans destroyed. Naurr was save by the crew of Ariane, feeling he owe then a debt and having no-where to go. Via broken English he talk Douglas into giving him the vacant chef role, which seems madness at first but slowly with help from the crew specially his best friend Philippe Rivette and pen pal letters from the ex-NX-01 sous chef Lili Beckettto bring out his secret talent. In the friendly environment of the Ariane he makes new friends and provides an innocent aboard view upon Humanity onboard the Ariane.

For a great Naurr (stolen toys)story see SL Walker Cajun Caitain

http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1686

=/\=

Lily Fitzroy

Kelvin03

From there we jump to circa 2230’s and Lily Fitzroy, who after a first contact mistake is take off the USS Argonaut and assign to teach tactics to Cadets at Starfleet Academy. However in these dark times she found an old Friend Martin Lallason who is the friend in need, which soon develops into the start of something special.

For more of these two see Favorite things:-

http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1749

=/\=

Emmylou Galyaski

From here we have a big jump (for the time being) to the STO timeframe year of 2409 and the Federation Starbase (or mad-house) USS Ganges led by Admiral Emmylou Galyaski.

DSC00539

Admiral Emmylou Galyaski is the kind Grandmother or head inmate of this asylum depending upon your view. As an officer who gain a lot of frontline experience during the Dominion War as the X/O of the Galaxy Class USS Atlantis especially during the seize of Cait and the final battle for Cardassia. Post war she commanded the science wing variant excelsior USS Trireme while also brings up her children onboard.

Still for more of this valiant old lady see Remembrance 2409: –

Well I hope this little view was interesting to you reader,

TTOT2014 W7 Day One Blog

Hello Reader,

Well after a bit of technical communication issues, that I shall blame on the Mimes. Week Seven of the Twelve Tasks of Triskelion 2014 is underway and it is now time to Blog like a Boss.

=/\=

Q1. What has Star Trek fandom — and ficcing specifically — meant to you?

A1. Well as ficcing isn’t a valid word, it doesn’t mean anything. 🙂

So the read question is what does the Star Trek Fandom mean and all the fine fiction that comes out of it. Honestly I’m not sure I can put into words what it means to me.

Star Trek and my writing have always being my escape from the harsh reality of the real world and the pressures of work. A chance to enter into a world where fairness is a normal part of the human condition. I think this is reflected in the kind way Trekkie treat each other and how they seem proud to be who they’re regardless of what the rest of the world thinks.

To me Star Trek (TOS) repeats along with Doctor Who and Terrahawks, were my entry into Science Fiction genre and stories that are able to ask big questions and explore big ideas and the core questions of humanity.

charliexhd452

Q2. What is the hardest story you ever had to write?

A2. I don’t think any story is easy to write especially with all my problems with spelling grammar and so for me I think getting start on Ad Astra was the hard, but the hardest story was one that was throw up by a random back-story comment that came out during Emmylou and Jalke’i first meeting back in one of my early Weekly Free Write Story. A couple of people said they want to know that story. I’ve got to admit so did I, but all I had was a single line that sum up the whole story. So I had to go back and expand it into the story that I want to tell. It took a reasonable amount of help from LBD as the Beta before it become “Argonaut Prime Minister Incident”, which on top of all the core structure I want to try and to make lily a believable Commodore and starship captain and her first contact screw up due to a human failure. The story is far from perfect but it’s one of my early archive story it does holds a special place in my fiction.

A metal butterfly is about to flap it's wings.

You can read the story here if you want:-

http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1649

Q3. What was the easiest? And why?

A3. You know I find this a much harder question to answer. As | said I’ve always struggle with delivering spelling and grammar to a good standard, so I don’t think any story was easy to get into the Archive.

However the one that I found surprisingly easy to write was Bow of the Wolf, which was written for SL Walker as A Stuff The Stocking 2013 gift.

You can read the story here if you want:-

http://www.adastrafanfic.com/viewstory.php?sid=1770

Well that all I’ve got to say for today,

I’ll wish you well safe trekking dear reader.

The Trek Letter List – No. 8 Write A Letter To your Favorite Internet Friend

Well it time to Blog like a Boss only the daily prompt seems to be missing in action.

So rather than lose out I shall do the next Trek Letter prompt.

Which is writing a letter from one of your character to their favourite Internet friend.

MeanderFaveHW

Now technically there isn’t any sign that the federation has a pan-Federation Internet, so I guess the close I’m going to get is a sort of Pen pal by electronic sub-space e-mail. Now this does seem to call for a Chef Naurr Letter.

So without further ado, here is the Cajun Caitian writing to his Best Friend Philippe Rivette.

=/\=

To Chief Philippe Rivette

Zefram Cochrane

From Naurr

Ariane

Dear Philiippe,

I’ve just received your last letter and the enclose pictures.

The Cajun part of Earth does indeed appear to be all that you described and much more.

I’m looking forward to visiting it and trying the authentic cooking to see how well I’ve done over the years.

I note from your new address that you serving on Archer new Warp 7 ship, I hear they bigger and better equipped, with more crew. I do hope you make lots of new friends but not so many you forget your old ones.

I believe Captain Gorrim feels a little pass over at the moment as Ariane remains the last NX Cruiser in active service and we are reduced to Coalition border patrol.

bound_002

He was making some remark about being reduced from scientist and warrior to Starfleet border dog, which I don’t understand as Captain Archer always treats his dog well, do you have any idea what the Captain Gorrim is going on about?

Well I don’t have a lot of news with the Romulan war finally over and us just patrolling Coalition borders. We’re still short staff as Starfleet has assigned the best people to the new Warp Seven ships. I mean Cassandra left to join Captain Erika on the Excalibur last week, which mean of the senior crew you knew only the Captain remains, he had to draft in MACO officers to fill some posts as we not getting new people from command.

I’ve also handed in my notice to the Captain, so my service to Starfleet will end when we get to Earth next month. Captain Gorrim appeared to accept it in good grace but I could see in his eyes made him very sad. I told him I’m going to tour for a while, make my way off to Lafa II, When Lili Beckett offer me a job in her Restaurant, I hope to build up enough money to go home to Cait and start my own Restaurant back home.

Writing of which reminds me I got visited Lili on Lafa II again last fortnight and see her growing clan, I also ran into Commander Reed. I did then Prako Gambaro that they liked.

O but we did get the sign plates in all four languages of the coalition to replace all our old Telarite ones at long last. So means we’ve finally work out what some of the more obscure signs mean. Also with our Coalition exchange program I’m now getting plenty of practice to cook Vulcan, Telarite and Andorian food I shall be able to cook something for everybody.

Other than that is all quiet here on the Ariane, I shall see you next Month.

Your Friend,

Naurr

=/\=

Historical reference, this letter is confirmed as being part of the last transmission Starfleet received from the Ariane NX-04. Which disappearance remains unexplained even in the 25th Century.

As Always all pictures are from Trekcore.

Feedback is welcome as always 😉 Till next time, Trek safe this day.

TToT2014 W5 Day Seven: Guessing

Well it’s day seven and given the day is nearly dead in the UK of the fifth week daily challenges and the prompt for today from the Admiralty has yet to emerge, So I’m just going to have to go with Guessing.

Yes I thinking the Admiralty is trying out our self-initiative skills test.

So here a ficlet

=/\=

“Ku Cliq, Buzz-click,” said Schick from her Science station.

“You can’t say that Schick,” said Inulie from the Navigation station.

“Well she did and I agree with our X/O,” said Kallachit from the Helm.

“Kallachit, watch your station or watch the fishes on the view-screen,” said Jolene from the communication stations.

“Buzz-click, kliq, click, scrape, kq, click,” said Schick.

“Don’t try sweet talking me,” said Jolene

“Naw she should cocoon you again,” laughed Kallachit

“CLICK, CIQ CLICK, CLICK-KLICK CQ!” Shouted Schick.

“That is enough, I know it boring waiting for the ship’s internal pressure to equalize as we go down to the required depth to enter the Aquatic city but we will act with decor.” Said Captain Ha’rris.

“Well can we play guess the content of the mysterious cargo? Instead,” asked Kallachit

“No Kallachit, we won’t,” said Ha’rris.

“Click click klic,” said Schick.

“Okay takes us down the next five hundred fathoms then Kallachit,” order Ha’rris.

“Executing now Captain,” said Kallachit.

The bridge crew all watch on the view screen as the ship sunk deeper still into the alien ocean.

“Klick? cq, kli click-click ku?” suddenly said Schick

“How big a fish are we talking about Schick?” asked Ha’rris

“Click-click scrape buzz-kliq,” replied Schick.

“That massive, Get it up on the view-screen Inulie, increase deflector screens strength,” order Ha’rris

Inulie fingers flew over the console and the transparent screen darken as the rear view was projected over it showinga massive creature bearing down on the ship.

“That is one big fish!” said Jolene

“Schick, check the database, see if we are in any real risk,” said Ha’rris

“Ckikc,” answer Schick.

“Red alert, shields and deflectors to full strength,” said Ha’rris

“Shields up, charging weapons” said Kallachit.

“Click, CL Kliq click ck, rustle!” said Schick

“I’m a starship Captain not a marine biologist so get one up here. Kallachit if try to do that to the ship you have my permission to use the phasers to tell it shove off” Said Ha’rris.

As always all your feedback comments are welcome.

Till next time Safe Trekking.

TToT 2014 W5 Day 5: Soaring

Well it’s Day four of the fifth week daily challenges and the prompt for today from the Admiralty is: – Soaring

Hmm that is a hard prompt from Admiral SL Walker, I’ve spent the day try to find inspiration but for once it hasn’t come readily.

So it’s time to reach deep and pull out a surprising tale of soaring, so let jump into the deep end and see what DEITDJW Ficlet emerges.

=/\=

The colony vegetation was a lush golden bronze and the world seemed alive not just in the new Colony town that she had left behind, this wooded valley she was discovering rang with the sounds of various animals and insects of this new world.

After so long onboard her starship, it felt good to be on a firm ground and to breath fresh air again. They was something uplifting to her soul as she felt her boots crunch on the soft ground as she walked along the hiking path.

She heard a cry from somewhere above her head and spotted a bird of prey circulating above her head. She watched it for a moment and she remembered the majestic bird of her childhood home now destroyed by the Horbus supernova.

Then she heard an all too familiar cry and was surprise as one of those majestic birds that she remembered from Romulan dropped out of the sun and snatches the other bird of prey and soar away to a nearby cliff top to enjoy it meal.

Torlia felt her own soul soar away with that Romulan Eagle and she felt a renew sense of pride in serving the Romulan Republic,

“We will endure and soar as high as that Eagle to maintain our freedoms from the old order,” though Torlia.

A surprise appearance by the Romulan Sub-commander Torlia.

Till next time Safe Trekking.

TToT 2014 W5 Day 4: Bittersweet

Well it’s Day four of the fifth week daily challenges and the prompt for today from the Admiralty is: – Bittersweet

Hmm that is a good prompt from Admiral SL Walker, So many ideas going round in my head and none wants to go to the forefront. So let’s go back to basics and a quick look at the Everyday Dictionary definition that says: –

Bittersweet adjective

1. Sweet but with a bitter aftertaste.

2. Pleasant but with a mixture of something sad or unpleasant.

Well I’m sure all Trekkie are use to the bittersweet feeling from watching the last movie, as Star Trek into Darkness, watching the mishandle of the Khan storyline was quite sad and yet the international viewing figures and the number of new fans that the movie brought in to the old TOS is most pleasant.

Or the Fate of Star Trek Enterprise after it best season ending on a below grade show and then the follow up books all ruined by the simple fact that authors for some reason can’t seem to accept that Trip died.

For some reasons this prompt is starting to scream for a Naurr story, so after the cover picture from the captain table on the Ariane above it time to go over to Chef Naurr on the Ariane. Written DEITDJW as usual.

=/\=

2158

Ariane NX-04

Captain Douglas Gorrim was walked pass the ship’s mess hall and was greet by an wonderful aroma of cooked food, that was so strong his stomach rumbling divert him to go and investigate the source.

He walked into the mess hall and was surprise to find it was full and yet the crew was all eating a strange color soup in silence.

“Captain! Do you want word soup?” asked his Caitian chef from the door to the Kitchen.

Despite his hunger, Douglas curiosity came first, so he asked.

“Evening Naurr, what’s word soup?”

“My latest creation, after the recent discomfiture, is that the right word of my chocolate poisoning joint with the fake bomb terror. I try to create something sweet yet bitter that we could all enjoy and make it up to the crew. I have achieved a hit I think” Replied Naurr

“It does smell very good but you didn’t need to go to the extra effort, we all understand the problems of a silent ‘e’ even if the Romulans don’t.”

Said Douglas with a smile.

“That is caring of you to say Captain, I offer you some soup but all the first ration has gone already.” Said Naurr.

“That’s alright Naurr. I was only passing by I’ll eat at the normal time. But why did you call it word soup?”

“Lieutenant Cassandra said she was missing alphabet pasta in red sauce, from her childhood, I didn’t have any reds or pasta in the shape of your alphabet, so I decide to do a simple spicy carrot soup but add vegetables and fruit cut into the shapes of your common symbols, so it a soup full of earth words hence word soups.”

“Did Cassandra like your gesture?” asked Douglas

Naurr pull a face before answering.

“Cassandra said all of my soups are far to spicy for her, so she had a corn beef Caesar salad instead,”

“I think after the firewater soup of last week, I can understand her having hesitation about trying it but I’m sure she appreciated the gesture if the not the soup,” Said Douglas.

“If you think so, she said as much but she did quickly disappear with one of the new MACO Officers, so I’m not sure she like her salad either,” replied Naurr.

“Naurr I think your food had nothing to do with that, don’t worry, you’ll see her at breakfast,” said Douglas.

“O good I doing one of her other favorite Ravioli for breakfast,” said Naurr.

Seeing Naurr smile Douglas didn’t have the heart to suggest anything different for breakfast to his alien friend.

12 Trials of Triskelion – Daily Prompt Day 2: RED

thegamestersoftriskelionhd0484

So I’ve got the second Daily Twelve Trials of Triskelion prompt and I’ve got to create something base upon: –

Red

Now when I think Red, I don’t think Red-shirts but Captain Lily Lallason nee Fitzroy or one of her daughter and a cute story did start to form in my head but it would take longer than a day to write and so I had to park that idea.

So I did a doodle with red pen, seeking inspiration and somehow a copy of red pen trek art start to came together, so I’ll decide to post them below with a little story paragraph ala the style of Star Trek Ship of the Line art books/calendars.

USS Argonaut

DSC00540

Investigating a red star deep in a nebula Captain Lily Fitzroy discovered a small planet and the Federation first direct discovery of the ruins of the ancient Promellian interstellar civilisation.

New Ships

DSC00541

In 2260 the Federation trialed three new ships class that would later form the backbone of the border dogs for the next half century. While the USS Tabard and USS Kniper were good servants of the Federation, the USS Miranda and all her later sisters remain in active service till the end of the Dominion War.

USS Hurricane

DSC00543

Under Captain Xenktid command the Nova Class USS Hurricane, went from science ship to photon torpedo boat leading to the USS Hurricane becoming one of the Galor Class Killer during the Dominion War.

USS Ganges

DSC00539

The Federation Star Base USS Ganges was originally Deep Space One and was different from other early Starfleet bases by being built on top of an abandon alien Starbase on a mini moon. As the Federation expanded, it was re-name USS Ganges and even in the 24th Century remain a vital way-point in the Federation.

An Alien

DSC00542

The Starfleet Xeno – biologists have stilled to confirm if this is indeed a rare picture of Chilo alien or just one of their servant race.

Well I hope you enjoyed some FalseBill Art and mini stories.

The Twelve Trials of Triskelion Pictures is from Trekcore while the rest of pictures are as actually mine!
